The weather gets cooler and in Texas that means EVERYTHING! It also means – it’s time for Halloween!
Halloween mantel 2012 – spooky and scary… But fun and whimsical, too!
Last year I made the spider jar, the scary eyeballs (from here), and I framed two voodoo postcards from New Orleans. And the year before that I made the skeleton wine bottle (refurburishing a wine bottle, scrapbook paper, and mod podge) and folded the pages from a book (idea from this blog). Everything doesn’t have to be handmade – if you see something and like it…buy it! I guarantee it won’t be there the next time! It’ll be spending time on someone else’s mantel…not yours! I bought the bats, the skeleton wine glass, and the crow!
This year I made the fun Halloween garland.
And the scary mummy wreath!
Mummy Wreath Supplies -
A yard or 2 of white cotton material
Spiders and roaches (rats)
Hot glue gun and glue
Straw wreath
Scissors
Cut material in strips, wrap around the wreath and tie – make the tie offs different lengths (mummy lengths) –
Hot glue spiders and roaches around the wreath -
It was an easy scary-ish wreath for the mantel!
I always have fun planning our mantel – use layers, combine different patterns and textures! Just remember art is subjective – do what you like and it’ll look great!
See you next year!
Disclaimer – lets face it… I’m not a professional photographer, not even with my iPhone and olloclip – the lighting in my family room is awful! And – ok, the fancy LED fish tank lights don’t help much either…

I love it!
Thank you!

[...] I posted that photo… And a comment was left asking if I’d like to be a guest on the Tiny Prints DIY blog. Um, let me think about that – YES! Here’s my debut on the Tiny Prints DIY blog! I’m flattered that my garland was noticed on Instagram! A special thanks to Tiny Prints for sharing my Halloween mantel! [...]
