Good Bye Old Friend

Today we said good bye to an old friend, ok…not a real live old friend – but, to a friend that’s been a part of our family since we lived in Orlando. A piece of furniture, not just any piece of furniture…this piece of furniture was my very first that I bought as unfinished. It was a solid tree – so it felt like it. It was heavy. It was not really a solid tree.

It was during our country decorating phase, don’t laugh, you know, you had one, too… in our Orlando home. I kinda miss our first home. Everything was, well – ya know…stained. I stained her and applied several coats of poly. There was no HGTV back in the early 90′s. There were no decorating blogs, either – blog was a foreign word. At the most we had – This Old House. That was it! I may or may not have sanded between coats of stain – just don’t tell Norm.

So, yesterday, we decided it was time to say good-bye. We sat her out on the driveway – yard sale. Now, I know how Woody felt when he lost Andy. If you’ve never been attached to something you won’t understand – I was attached to this piece of furniture. She’s not a 15th century piece, she was early 90′s. She was perfect for our “tube” (ya’ll remember what those were, right?) tv, and our stackable stereo system. I know, awesome! At one time we had huge speakers that sat on each side of her…you’re jealous! It’s cool! The 90′s were super cool for decorators! Ha

Here she is sitting on the street waiting for her new home. I know, if we cherished her so much, why is she sitting on the street? It was the quickest way to find her a new home – before “sigh” trash day. Had she not found a home, I would have dragged her back to the garage. I promised her that! She’s too good for the trash.

I want to share with ya’ll the last photo of our girl – today she found a new family. I really hope they cherish her as much as we did. I hope they have a special room for her in their home.

Good bye old friend – we’ll never forget you! You served us well and you never tipped over on the kids! Thank you!
