My review is up!
Raye and I ran the Statesman Cap10K – ok, we walked most of it. Ok, except for the run up Congress, we walked. It’s my fault – I’m lazy! I didn’t train – AT ALL. I was excited when we signed up…but then that excitement ran away. I’ve got a hitch in my giddy up and it’s kinda sore. I didn’t want to give up on the 10K – so we walked. Although as we hit Enfield, there came a moment when I started thinking – WHAT IN THE HELL! I also thought – maybe this running thing ain’t for me and maybe I should find another sport to use my fancy running shoes. I nearly died on Enfield. I have a love/hate relationship with Enfield. I’ve reached the summit twice now! Go me for not quitting!
We arrived early and found parking easy for $7. I don’t care how much the cost – I DO, but as long as it is close to the start/finish. It was closer to the start. We walked to our color coded group and waited for the start. Raye needed to find a restroom, so she took off with her dad (he wasn’t running the 10k) to find a restroom. The nice clean restroom at the hotel had a line around the lobby. The closest porta potty – same type of line. She’s my girl and decided to wait – the run was about to start.
Things we saw along the way – getting in the color coded groups. Hello cornacoupia – see you later! Ha
These ladies made me want guacamole!!
The run started a little bit late and it took about six minutes to reach the start line. There were about 23,000 people registered to run the Cap10K. We were in the middle of all that – I positioned us in a decent color- coded group. The national anthem was sung and we took off. Well after we made it to the start line – we ran up Congress and that’s when I had to stop. I know, it sucked! I was in a little pain, but didn’t want to give up. So we walked. Thousands of runners ran past – that was disappointing. Not much I could do, except trip a few – Up Congress towards the Capitol to the first set of porta potties – Raye got in line.
Turn at Congress to E.11th Street – water and porta potties! Texas Capitol Building!
From Congress we turned on to E. 11th Street – a hill. It’s a small hill compared to the living hell of Enfield. At the top of E. 11th Street and San Jacinto we could see Royal Memorial Stadium – HOOK’EM HORNS!
We saw him on 15th street –
OMG – Enfield! I’m already looking forward to the 2012 Turkey Trot! Ha
Don’t ask – Don’t tell – more power to these girls!
Downtown Austin – from far away! That’s Austin High School!
Water stop near Austin High School – about 7.5K or 4.5 mile.
Still feeling good with a ways to go – at this water stop we caught up with the cornucopia. Yes, that’s what I said. I’ll wait here while you scroll up to the top to see him. See him? That costume was made out of balloons – talent!! I wanted to be no where near him – just incase he started to pop! Ha
Bacon?! Had I known…I would’ve picked my pace up! Ha
The weather was beautiful – who am I kidding – it was HOT! We enjoyed all the different bands that played around the course – I think we even heard gospel from a church on 15th. We had a blast – this was our first Statesman Capitol 10K and maybe next year we’ll be ready to PR! But, that last half mile was hard – dunno why but it felt like my toes and heel had blisters – they didn’t! Other that that – I felt great. I couldn’t make it to the after fun – my “fake” blisters wouldn’t allow any extra walking. I hated that, so I’m looking forward to next year – April 7, 2013!
